When one thinks of Terry Rogers, words such as commitment, consistency, devotion, and inspiring are just a few that come to mind. As a graduate of Union County High School he went on to became the face of the school as a coach and athletic director for over twenty-seven years. During his tenure at Union County High School, Terry coached six sports, which is unheard of in athletics. His commitment to the students and staff members at Union County High School is legendary. Terry was inducted into the Union County High School Football Hall of Fame as a football player and as a football coach. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Georgia in 1970, Terry attended North Georgia College and earned his Master of Education degree in Physical Education in 1980. In 1990 Terry completed his Education Specialist degree at Jacksonville State University. In 1995 he earned the distinction of being a Certified Athletic Administrator (C.A.A.) by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (N.I.A.A.A.) in Indianapolis, Indiana. It should also be noted that Terry Rogers served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. Terry was able to take an athletic budget that was heavily in debt when he became the athletic director at Union County High School and not only remove the debt, but added facilities, equipment, and overall value to the athletic program. He did this with extensive fundraising in an area of the state where sponsorships and system funding were unavailable. Moreover, Terry added athletic programs while other schools were having to reduce what they were able to offer students in the area of athletics.

In 1995 Terry Rogers was recognized by the N.I.A.A.A. for providing twentyfive years of outstanding service as an athletic administrator. He was honored as the Region 8-A Athletic Director of the Year and the Classification Athletic Director of the Year in 1990 by the Georgia Athletic Directors Association. In 2006 Terry received the Distinguished Coaching Award from the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (G.A.C.A.). Additionally, he was presented with the Lifetime Membership Award from the G.A.C.A. Terry served on the Executive Board and was the Region Representative for the Georgia High School Association (G.H.S.A.) for four years. He has served the G.A.C.A. extensively during his career. He spent four years on the G.A.C.A. Hall of Fame Committee, four years as the G.A.C.A. Chairman for Athletic Directors, and three years on the G.A.C.A. Executive Board. In 2003 Terry served as the President of the G.A.C.A. and from 2008 to 2016 he served as the organization’s Executive Director. Terry was also the Director of the Atlanta NIKE Coach of the Year Clinic for five years. He was on the Board of Directors for the National Organization of Coaches and Association Directors (N.O.C.A.D.) for four years and he remains as a serving consultant to the organization’s Board of Directors. In 2015 Terry was the Vice President of N.O.C.A.D. and he served as the President of the organization in 2016. Terry has been steadfast in his commitment to the people of Union County and the high school athletic programs throughout the state of Georgia. Enough cannot be said about his efforts to enhance athletic programs for the benefit of others.

At Terry’s side is his wife Jerri, who was the secretary and bookkeeper for the athletic department at Union County High school. She was his trusted assistant and kept the athletic program operating successfully. Terry has unconditionally served many individuals by promoting athletics in Union County and in the state of Georgia through his great efforts and timeless work. He will always be held in high esteem in Union County and around the state.
