Steve began his coaching a career in DeKalb County at Briarcliff High School where he taught History and coached football and swimming. Leaving DeKalb, he returned to the University of Georgia as an assistant swimming coach and obtained his Master’s (M.A.) and Specialists Degrees (Ed.S).

He left the University to join the legendary coach, Tally Johnson at Central Gwinnet High school where he taught History and served as defensive coordinator and head track coach. One of his defenses remains the #1 defense in Gwinnett County history, while three others are still in the Top Ten.

He left Central to become the head football coach at South Gwinnett high school where he led his team into the play-offs for the first time in many years and set 42 school records.

He became the Director of Athletics for the Gwinnett County Public Schools and also became the President of the Georgia Athletic Director’s Association and served as Region 8 representative to the Georgia High School Association Executive Committee. While serving as President of the GADA, he lead the move to allow lay coaches in the state of Georgia, helped pass legislation to eliminate the Georgia Sales tax on athletic tickets, and along with Corkey Kell, we one of the originators of the Georgia Dome Game, now named the Corky Kell Classic.

He left Gwinnett County in 2000 to assume the principalship of St. Pius X Catholic High School where he currently serves and remains active in Georgia High School Athletics.
