Steve Jones

Class Of 2017

Steve Jones, a 1970 graduate of Decatur High School, has devoted 38 years to education-based athletics in the state of Georgia. Jones served as the Athletic director for the Cobb County School System for 12 years. In that role he created and implemented a countywide extracurricular code of conduct, oversaw the installation of synthetic turf for all of the county’s high schools, and created the countywide online athletic registration system. Jones oversees 16 high schools and over 700 coaches.

Steve began his career in athletic administration, after 28 years of coaching, at Walton High School in 2002. As athletic director he directed the stadium, concession stand and field’s renovations. During his five-year tenure the Raiders won 8 state championships and was awarded the Directors Cup in 2007. Jones was named the Region Athletic Director of the year in 2004-2005.

Steve has been a member of the GADA and the NIAAA since 2002 and received his Certified athletic Administrator designation in 2007. Jones served as the Chairman of the Metro RESA Athletic Directors Association for 12 years and as a member of the GHSA Executive Committee for 4 years.
Steve and his wife Kathy have three adult children.
